Leap Year Pay Adjustment

Many members are questioning why their hourly rate went down this year. The reason is that Leap Years have more days, so the salaries must be divided by .1 more than usual to get the bi-weekly pay rates. Hourly rates are determined by dividing the bi-weekly pay rate by 75.

Last year a teacher at the top of the masters scale received a yearly salary of $60,000. Last year the bi-weekly salary was determined by dividing $60,000 by 22.2 you would find the bi-weekly pay of $2702.70. Breaking that down to hourly rate is just a matter of dividing the bi-weekly pay by the 75 hours in the work week for an hourly rate of $36.04.

Using the same calculations with the 22.3 pays for leap year will give you an hourly rate of $35.87.

This is not usually noticed because we frequently settle the contract before school is out so the first paychecks reflect a new salary amount. Soon you will have an opportunity to vote on your new salary amount.

Leap year is 366 days rather than the usual 365, but your contract is 198 days regardless. You do not work an additional day the year.
