Rumor Control
2% Pay Cut
Many members have been calling and writing about the comment Dr. Wilcox made about proposing a 2% decrease in salaries across the board. Every year the district sends a message that no or a small raise is all that is possible and every year we negotiate the salary schedule that does not follow that prediction. We have not begun to negotiate salaries yet, and any settlement must be approved by the members of the unit. Don’t panic.
Leap Year Pay Adjustment
Many members are questioning why their hourly rate went down this year. The reason is that Leap Years have more days, so the salaries must be divided by .1 more than usual to get the bi-weekly pay rates. Hourly rates are determined by dividing the bi-weekly pay rate by 75.
Signing In
Question: Must employees sign in and out?
Answer: It is reasonable to have employees sign in and sign out to know who is at work and on the premises. According to Administration Officials, this is "highly recommended, but not mandated." So, if schools are establishing, for the first time, a sign in process, it should be done in such a way to make it as simple and easy as possible, perhaps using technology. It's silly to have people sign out at the end of the day.
Dress Code
There is no dress code for teachers. Teachers and support staff should
dress professionally and appropriately for the work they are doing and
the environment in which they teach. Obviously, how one looks is how
they are perceived by students, parents, and colleagues.
Walkthroughs
I hear that that administrators are using the walkthroughs for evaluation and that they are downloading the data on their Blackberries and sending it to the district (or DOE).
