On November 2, 2004, voters in Pinellas County made it clear that high quality public schools were a priority they were willing to pay extra for. They approved a half-mil tax levy that, in its first two years, produced nearly $70 million. 80%
of that amount, approximately $6,500 per teacher, was earmarked for salary enhancements. The remaining funds have made a dramatic impact throughout the school system by enhancing technology, art and music, and reading programs.
