Marilyn's October 2007 Message

If you did not attend our September PEER meeting, you missed a wonderful program and luncheon.  Our guest speaker was Jade Moore who gave us an insight into what is happening with education, how it is affecting students and how it will affect us as retirees..  The regular meeting was followed by our paid-up membership luncheon sponsored by the membership grant we received from AFT. Thanks to Dave Byers and his committee who planned the luncheon and helped set-up and clean-up.  We couldn’t have done it without you!!

The rest of the 2007-08 year promises to be as exciting as our first meeting.  Our next meeting will be held on Monday, October 15, at the PCTA Building.  We will begin at 9:30 with breakfast followed by our meeting at 10:00.  The guest speaker is Beth Warren who will speak on “Organizing and De-Cluttering.”  This should be very entertaining and give us all some good ideas.

It is not too late to pay your PEER dues!  Annual dues are $46 and lifetime dues are $400.  Your dues must be paid by October 31 in order to be included in the PEER Membership Directory.  You can send your dues to Carol Justice at the PCTA Office or, even better, bring them to the October 15 meeting!!

At each meeting we collect items for the local Food Pantry.  Please bring canned goods for this worthy cause.

Remember to bring your volunteer hours!! Last month, we had 1990 hours; we are off to a good start. And speaking of our volunteer hours, Vivian Silbiger, who is the state president for FEA-R, sent this e-mail:

For those who were not at the FEA/DA on Saturday morning, I presented a "mock" check, made by District 1 Director Carole Apfel's husband, to Andy Ford for all the hours you and your members reported to us over this past year. The figure was arrived at by multiplying  the hours reported by $18 for a total of $351.699. This is the amount we saved from having to hire people to do the jobs we volunteer for. Keep up the good work and send your volunteer sheets to your area directors every month. Let's surpass this for next year.

We will be starting a program throughout the State to mentor college students who are going into education who are also members of FEA/Students. If you have not already signed up and are interested, or members of your locals are interested, please send me their names and phone numbers.

Thank you for all your support for FEA/Retired.

Articles and reports for the next edition of the Pipeline are due to me no later than October 31.

I hope to see you at the October 15 meeting.  Bring a friend!!
