Marilyn's August/September 2007 Message
Welcome back to another year of PEER! PEER, Pinellas Education Employees-Retired, is the only local retired educator association that is affiliated with PCTA/PESPA, NEA, FEA, and AFT. PEER has a lot to offer including:
- Monthly meetings with interesting speakers and programs
- Community and service involvement
- Scholarship sponsorship
- Social Activities
- Collecting items for the Food Pantry each month
- Information about educational activities
- Learning about political issues
Our membership drive is now in full swing. Annual dues are $46. Lifetime dues are $400. We also ask for a voluntary $3 contribution to Political Action. Membership forms are in the August Pipeline (our newsletter) and are also available at the PCTA Office.
On Saturday, August 25, we will host one of our favorite events of the year, our annual Flea market. During the year we have been collecting new and useable educational materials and, on this day, we invite new and returning educators to take free materials to help them during the school year. We will be setting up on August 24. Volunteers are needed for both days to help organize materials, welcome our guests, and assist them in locating appropriate materials.
Our first meeting will be held on September 17. We will meet at 9:30 for a continental breakfast provided by Tax Shelter America and your PEER officers. This will be followed by our regular meeting at 10:00. Our guest speaker will be Jade Moore. After the meeting, we will have our paid-up membership luncheon which is sponsored by a membership grant that we received from AFT. Are you a new retiree and thinking about joining PEER? We invite you to our luncheon!
I hope to see you often throughout the year.
Marilyn Warner
