Pinellas Education Employees Retired (PEER) Minutes
November 20, 2007
President Marilyn Warner called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M.

Tax Shelter America mentioned some possibilities for safe investments especially for seniors and presented gift certificates to three PEER members.
Claire Cousins introduced Bob Barrett from the Florida West Coast Orchid Society who presented a program about orchids and donated four orchid plants for the drawing.
The minutes of the October 15, 2007 minutes were corrected to read Janey Ball rather than Bell and were then approved.
Reports:
President: Marilyn thanked Allin, Sarah and Dave, Kathy King, Kathy and Bill, Herb, Janey, Linda and Linda for helping with the mailing of the Pipeline and the printing of the directory, and she thanked the Gators for today’s breakfast. Marilyn read a thank you note from Nan Lanham for the gift of appreciation for her work as PEER secretary.
There has been a request from AFT for donations of books for the New Orleans K – 12 School District. PEER members may bring them to the December and/or January meetings. If any members are interested in receiving their Pipelines via e-mail rather than regular mail, let Marilyn know.
Vice-President: Janey Ball asked that members who want to be called and reminded of the PEER meetings please let her know so that she can organize a call list. She also reminded members to check the Pipeline for the list of items to bring for the adults at Pilgrims Haven House and for the Ronald McDonald house to the Holiday Party at Ada’s on December 17.
Treasurer: Bob Schlerf reported that as of September 30, the balance in the PEER account was $9,847.47. After expenses of $736.44 and income of $410, the balance as of Nov. 19, 2007 is $9,571.05. The Credit Union savings account is $470.36. PEER has five CD’s with a total of $25,428.78 for total assets of $35,470.99. Bob also reported that one donation to the PEER scholarship fund has been made in memory of GraceTadlock.
FEA-R: Dave Byers reported that the next meeting of FEA-R will be January 22.
Membership: Dave reported that we have 296 members at this time: 224 life members and 72 annual members. Of those, 24 are pre-retired. Dave thanked Marilyn for personally sending postcards to the 29 members who had not yet paid their dues. Two have since paid. Directories and membership cards were distributed. Directories for those members not present will be mailed.
Volunteer hours: In October PEER members acccumulated 165 school-related hours and 854 others for a total of 1019. The total so far this year is 507 school-related and 2960 other for a total to date of 3467.
Scholarship: Allin referred the members to the information in the Pipeline about the PEER scholarship.
Food Pantry: Last month 62 pounds of food were collected.
Flea Market: Linda McGeehan said that materials may be brought to PCTA from now on, and stressed that materials for high school are especially needed.
Program: Joyce Walters reported for Jane Lee on the PEER December field trips. The program by the Clearwater Chorus was the 18th at Ruth Eckerd Hall. On November 23rd, members can meet at 10:00 in the lobby of the Harborview Center to attend Festival of Trees and lunch afterward. Members may call Jane at 399-0058 for information.
Joyce also made a personal announcement on the behalf of the Sierra Club to invite PEER members to attend a tasting at Integrity to Go Organics. It will be from 4:00 to 7:00 on January 26th at 300 1st Ave South in St Petersburg.
Claire Cousins announced that if Dr. Wilcox is not available for the January program, it will consist of PEER members telling about the volunteer activities. She also reminded us to make donations to Clothes for Kids. They especially need jeans or other pants.
There was no unfinished or new business.
The next meeting will be the Holiday Party at Ada Raynal’s on December 17 from 10:00 A.M. Ada invited all to attend, and to bring a side dish or dessert. Meat and drinks will be provided.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:15.
