Troublesome Six

These are areas where most awful cases begin, please be cautious.

In the little pocket calendar we give ALL our members, in the back we have the page called “Troublesome Six.” Everyone should be reminded of some topics that the District and the Office of Professional Standards takes seriously. They often determine whether a teacher will continue teaching. PCTA leaders want to make sure that you do!

Sex:
Avoid any sexual situations or discussions about sex with students.

Notes and Jokes:
Personal notes should never be written unless they deal solely with educational matters. Avoid tasteless jokes and any sarcastic remarks.

Handling Money:
Do not handle money unless you first understand and follow the necessary procedures required by the District.

Just the Two of You:
Do not place yourself in situations inside or outside the educational setting where you could be alone with a student. Also, avoid being in an office, car, or room where you are alone with a student.

Touching Students:
Anytime you touch a student you place yourself at risk. Be careful and use common sense.
